English as a Second Language ![]()
The Early Years E.S.L. curriculum focuses on the fundamentals required for communication and participation within mainstream classes. Vocabulary, pronunciation and letter sound recognition form the basis of the program presented intensively in small groups.
Learning activities centre on:
- Games and rhymes
- Stories with opportunities for conversation
- Dialogue
- Explicit teaching
Our E.S.L curriculum aims to meet the individual needs of the students. As students progress through the grades, the program progresses to reading and writing words and constructing sentences. In addition students become increasingly familiar with more complex sound patterns. The lessons centre on themes that are relevant to the students. While vocabulary remains a focus, reference to grammar is included when appropriate.
