The Arabic Language program in the Islamic College is based on the SACSA framework for South Australia. It is designed to teach students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds to communicate effectively in Arabic and to understand the language and its culture. The program contributes significantly to the stated objectives of the Islamic College which aim to facilitate and enhance students' appreciation of the teachings of the Holy Quran.
A student-centred approach is used to teach students in Years 7 to 10. The teacher facilitates students' interaction with each other in the classroom and exposes them to spoken and written texts with varying levels of complexity. Our students develop their grammatical skills, which allow them to deal with more complex issues in the language. They learn to express their opinions and feelings with a higher level of linguistic sophistication. Our teachers work systematically on increasing their speaking, writing, listening and reading skills in Arabic.
Specific programs are also developed to respond to the individual learning needs of students in the form of advanced, middle and remedial classes. All of these programs provide students with cultural experiences deeply embedded in the Arabic language.
