English 
English during the Middle Years builds on the SACSA Frameworks enabling students to extend their knowledge of language through:
- Reading and viewing
- Listening and speaking
- Writing
Students also use and understand different ways to learn about language. They apply this knowledge in a range of contexts and for different purposes and audiences. Students compose a range of texts and engage with and respond to the texts of others. Skills in functional and critical literacy are emphasised in relation to personal experiences, local and global communities. Students are encouraged to:
- Make links between texts and their own experience
- Write thoughtfully, clearly, accurately and creatively
- Be independent readers that enjoy a variety of texts
- Develop independent learning skills in English
