The Design and Technology curriculum in the Middle Years is developed to empower students. It involves the creation of products, processes and systems to solve problems. At the Islamic College students contextualise their knowledge, experience, resources, ideas and values in a practical and critical manner taking into account sustainability, cultural aspects, resources, ideas and values.

Students in a class setting work with design briefs that include:

  • Critiquing - making judgments
  • Designing - change and choice making
  • Making - ways of making products, processes and systems

Design and Technology engages students in a "hands on" learning environment that integrates and supports other learning areas, encouraging students to develop a global awareness of societal needs.
